I spent my childhood in Muzaffarnagar, India, and completed a Master’s Degree in Economics. After marrying my husband, Dr. Sharad Moonat, I moved to Houston in 1976, four months after our wedding. Together, we built a wholesale diamond business, M.S. International, which we ran together for 40 years. What began in Houston later expanded to San Francisco, and my focus was always on public relations building long term, meaningful relationships with clients that remain part of my life even today.
My heart is my family, and I am grateful for a loving 50 year marriage, two wonderful sons, and two beautiful grandchildren who fill my life with joy. My hobbies include art, singing, dancing, teaching, and acting passions I have shared with my husband and ones that have deeply enriched my ability to give back to the community.
Community service has been woven into our family’s values. Starting in 1990, Dr. Moonat and I dedicated more than 20 years to the Concord Senior Center, helping celebrate festivals, anniversaries, and milestones that created connection and a true sense of belonging. In 1996, we created Gandhi Mela, a cultural festival that welcomed thousands of guests and showcased Indian traditions through art, food, clothing, and dance.
In recent years, we have continued serving the community through the ICC by offering yoga, pranayama, and engaging activities. These programs are now easily available on Zoom to promote health, happiness, and a sense of togetherness.
“My purpose is to serve the community to nurture wellbeing, connection, and the feeling that we all belong.”
