Highest Number to Date at ICC Youthsava 2009!

Milpitas, CA - India Community Center's annual dance contest, Youthsava, netted trophies for twenty nine winning dance teams, Saturday April 25, Malavali Auditorium, ICC. The twelve hour afternoon event featured more than 600 participants with 80 teams participating throughout the Bay Area.  Children - ranging in age from 4 to 18 - competed in Indian film and folk categories, with costumes from many regions of India and contemporary Bollywood.  All winning teams are listed below.
 
The annual dance competition is one of India Community Center's largest events.  The ICC auditorium was packed with about  1300 people watching the teams compete. This year brought saw the first regional film song winner in the "Senior Film" category titled "Mukunda, Mukunda". Another first was victory for an all boys team in the "Junior Remix" category dancing to the music of "Krazy 4 Muquabla".
 
"Youthsava is an amazing event for kids to participate in," said ICC Executive Director Seshan Rammohan. "It actively promotes the benefits of teamwork and offers children a fun glimpse into Indian culture," he said. The India Community Center offers numerous classes in classical and contemporary dance. Bollywood dance is the center's most popular dance offering: the style combines classical Indian dance moves with music from contemporary Indian films.
