Youthsava 2012 Rules and Regulations
EVENT INFORMATION
• DATE & TIME : Saturday , March 31st, 2012, from 9am-9pm. • VENUE: India Community Center, Milpitas
OFFICIAL RULES OF THE CONTEST
The official rules are as follows. All participants must honor these rules. Violations will be grounds for penalties and/disqualification from the contest.
1. APPLICATIONS:
• Registrations are online @ www.indiacc.org/youthsava2012
• Registration fees have to be paid in full while registration.
• Registration fees are $89 which includes participant, director and one assistant ticket.
• Applications are considered on a first come first serve basis. ICC reserves the right to reject applications that do not meet the selection criteria.
• No songs can be repeated in a category by itself. This will be strictly on the first come first taken basis. Songs will be uploaded on the ICC’s website as we receive them.
• Directors will be notified if they do not get their first choice song. They will have the opportunity to choose a new song that has not already been taken.
• Directors must register their teams under their name. Teams may not be registered under participant or parents names.
• Application Deadline: Feb 24th, 2012, no exceptions.
• A director will not be permitted to have multiple groups in any given category
• We will make the following exceptions:
o Directors can send more than one entry per category, if the dancers in the groups are different.
2. GROUP RULES:
• Contest is for GROUPS - Minimum of 4 dancers and Maximum of 16 dancers without any penalties.
o PENALTY: If the numbers of dancers are less than 4 or more than 16, on stage at any given time, that team will be disqualifies immediately.
• NO SOLO PERFORMANCES ALLOWED in the competition. One dancer cannot dominate the show while others are dancing in the background most of the time.
• Show case items will be based of first come first served basis, time permitting only as decided by organizers.
3. CATEGORIES:
• Sub Junior category ages 4-7yrs a) Film b) Folk and c) Remix
• Junior category - ages 8-12yrs – a) Film b) Folk and c) Remix
• Senior category - ages 13-18yrs - a) Film b) Folk and c) Remix
• Adult showcase category open to ages 18years and above and it is non competitive
• Same Dancers cannot compete in more than one dance in the same category. • Same dancers can compete in more than one category. However we strongly recommend that same dancers do not participate in more than one category for the following reasons –
Costume changes could be a bottleneck adding to delays Complications for the scheduling the line up of teams.
To allow for increased participation from the community,
• AGE EXCEPTIONS:
• Participant may be allowed to be out of the age group (older or younger) within a year of the limits of that age group.
PENALTY: Should there be exceptions to age of participants beyond those stated above that team will be disqualified.
• Cross checking that all participants are within the age group is based on honor system. It is the team director/coordinator’s responsibility to bring all exceptions to our notice. However if it is brought to our attention that a participant is under or over the age category that they have registered under, ICC hold the right to disqualify the entire team.
Number of Teams in each category:
• A category MUST have a minimum of 3 entries to be in the competition. If less than 3 teams, then the category will be a show case item, time permitting or the category will be cancelled.
4. Reporting Time:
Groups are expected to report 1 hr before their scheduled reporting time. Timings will be e-mailed out once the registration closes and line up is confirmed.
5. Length of performance:
Music/Performance cannot exceed 7 minutes.
PENALTY: The team will be informed if the length exceeds 7mins and also they could be disqualified.
6. MUSIC CDs:
CDs To be used for the dance must be given to ICC by March 9th 2012. The CD must contain only one track to be used for the dance. We will not be able to go thru various tracks as it is time consuming for us. We will not return your CDs, given the logistical issues we have faced in the past. Do not give us any original CDs or music that you cannot afford to lose. We will also not allow live music.
7.SONG LANGUAGE:
a. Film category: Songs should be a film song only; it can’t be the remixed version of the song, even though it is used in the film. Contemporary songs and songs from private albums and/or remix albums will not be allowed in the film category.
b. Folk category: Groups can use songs from any language provided it has folk beats.
c. Remix category: You can use the remixed version of the film songs or you could create your own medley of songs. Medley should not exceed 7 mins.
8. PROPS:
Props can be used as long as they take less than one minute of set-up and tear- down time.
Props such as plants, pots and small chairs can be used.
Props cannot include flames, candles, weapons or sharp objects of any kind which may jeopardize the safety of dancers and others.
Themes, props and costume should be of a appropriate nature and not cheapen the dance as an art form.
No vulgarities or obscenities are allowed at this family event. Immediate disqualification of this person(s) will result in such occurrence.
All decorations, equipment, clothes or clothing, jewelry etc are the responsibility of the dance director and dancers. ICC is not responsible for any damage or loss of these items.
9. Stage Lighting:
Full wash at all times. No special effects to any team.
10. JUDGING:
Each category will have atleast 3 judges who are qualified individuals.
a. The judges score will be based on the following criteria:
Entry/ opening, creativity/innovation, formation, coordination (Synchronization), expressions/lip sync, choreography, costume, grace and exit/end.
11. ICC is not responsible for any injury to participants which may result during their
participation in the contest.
12. PRIZE DISTRIBUTION:
Prizes for category will be given after the entire category is over.
13. All decisions of the judges, all rules and interpretations of ICC’s are final.
14. Rules may be changed at the discreation of ICC’s selection committee without notice. Dance groups may be disqualified before, during or after their performance, if found to be in violation of ICC’s policies and rules for the contest.
