Camp Descriptions

Cultural Immersion Camp Activities

  • Bollywood Dance or Folk Dance – Each week we learn either a dance set to a Bollywood song or a folk dance like Garba or Bhangra.
  • Yoga – Animal poses and storytelling yoga make it fun while teaching kids basic yoga. It’s a great start to every day of camp.
  • Indian History Skits – Doing skits based on Indian History is a unique way to learn about our heritage.
  • Indian Geography Games – Using manipulative games we get a sense of India’s geography, its landmarks, its neighbors and its cultural differences based on its varied regions.
  • Indian Crafts – Exploring crafts like Rangoli, Diya making and Indian drums help develop motor skills.
  • Indian Cooking – Learning to make Roti’s in the shape of an Indian map takes cooking to a new level.
  • Indian Music – Singing patriotic Indian songs is a great way to learn about Indian history.
  • Cricket – To stay fit we play cricket, badminton and other games popular in India.
  • Eco Prithvi – Exploring the world around us and trying to preserve it is an important part of our camps.
  • Family Dhamaka – Every Friday we share what we learned during the week in a special performance for the parents.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall of 2010.

Hindi Camp Camp Activities (Basic)

  • Activity based Hindi language camp.
  • Special animal poses in yoga will be taught in Hindi combining yoga skills with language skills.
  • Kids will learn conversational Hindi (day to day phrases) through games and skits.
  • Rudimentary writing of vowels and alphabets.
  • Learning language through songs will be a key part of our daily activities.
  • Unique Bazaar’s (marketplaces) will be set up to sell fruits, vegetables and learn names.
  • Visual hands on activities.
  • In camp Library with Bilingual books.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall of 2010.

Hindi Camp Camp Activities (Advanced)

  • This camp is focused on learning to read and write Hindi.
  • Learn to write all vowels and alphabets, some 2 or 3 letter words in a short sentence.
  • Fun interactive class activities.
  • Use of songs, stories and illustrations to teach language.
  • Homework sheets everyday for practice.
  • Small group sizes.
  • In camp Library with Bilingual books.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall of 2010.

Crafts of India Camp Activities

  • Learn the designs and processes for various crafts while creating scarves, bags, jewelry, boxes, wall hangings, cushion covers etc.
  • Craft techniques will include Tie and Dye, Warli art, Kantha Embroidery, Block printing, Weaving, Cross Stitch and many others.
  • Explore traditional designs with Henna and Rangoli
  • Creativity is encouraged and cultivated.
  • Exhibition on the last day of camp.
  • For children entering 4th through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Community Service & Leadership Camp Activities

  • Make a difference and serve the community.
  • Learn teamwork and leadership while doing projects for the local community.
  • Projects may include visits to other sites including parks, senior centers, food banks etc.
  • Develop leadership skills, understand the importance of decision making and learn effective communication.
  • By motivating younger campers to work towards a common goal team members will work on their skills in the functions of planning, organizing, leading and coordinating activities
  • Communication skills will be practiced within teams and with larger groups
  • For children entering 6th , 7th & 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Movie Magic Camp Activities

  • Learn video shooting and editing skills while exploring India’s rich heritage.
  • Children will develop team building and communication expertise while writing scripts based on Indian themes and concepts.
  • Exhibition on the last day of camp.
  • For children entering 4th through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Bollywood Dance Camp Activities

  • Dance to musical hits from popular Bollywood movies while learning new and original dance steps.
  • Special dances created just for this camp by the amazing teachers and choreographers of the Mona Sampath Dance Company
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Invent a Bot Robotics & Animation Camp Activities

  • Explore the exciting world of NXT Robotics and create your own animated movie.
  • Harness your child’s creativity with the power of LEGO TECHNIC* elements combined with state-of-the-art ultrasonic, sound, light and touch sensors.
  • Students will use a web cam and LEGO* Studios software to make short animated movies.
  • With great coaches and step-by-step building instructions this amazing program introduces kids of all levels to the world of robotics and animation.
  • All materials are provided for onsite use.
  • For children entering 3rd through 7th grade in the fall of 2010

BollyHop Camp Activities

  • This new energetic dance style combines dance moves from Bollywood with Hip Hop.
  • Special choreography takes the best from east and west to create unique dances.
  • So join us for this high energy dance camp and get moving.
  • Special dances created just for this camp by the amazing teachers and choreographers of the Mona Sampath Dance Company
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Space and Rocketry Camp Activities

  • Build and launch an eco friendly hydro-rocket.
  • Get pumped up for some space exploration.
  • Using the power of air pressure and water, launch your very own rocket over 100 feet into the air
  • Bring a bottle from home to design and launch a personalized rocket.
  • Take a trip around the universe by building a light-up solar system and a model of your galactic address.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Robot Factory Camp Activities

  • Build a giant insect motorized walking K’nex robot.
  • Investigate what makes a robot tick as we take a robot’s-eye view in 3-D, listen with electronic ears, and prepare to compete in the Robo-Olympics.
  • Build a robot model with 5 robot technologies, create a crazy invention, and discover how robots are changing the face of our world.
  • Power up for fun and discover the secret lives of these extreme machines.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Chess Camp Activities

  • Get an in-depth view into the world of chess through games, activities and practice.
  • The strategy and moves of chess teach children how to focus and think ahead in various aspects of life.
  • Teaches children many important life concepts such as the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship.
  • By putting an emphasis on the individual needs and progress of each student we ensure a completely unique way of introducing your child to the world of chess.
  • The program is known for their success in helping children build a vast array of skills; ranging from development in concentration, logical thinking and even mathematical performance.
  • For children entering Kindergarten through 7th grade in the fall of 2010.

Vedic Camp Activities

  • 20secondMath brings a unique concept to our Vedic Math Camp. Imagine a math class of ancient times, where knowledge was passed on as an oral tradition, and the teacher quickly calls or drills out certain numbers to add, subtract, multiply or divide and the children instantly reply with the correct intuitive answers!
  • ‘Is this mathematics or magic? ‘It is both. It is magic until you understand it; and it is mathematics thereafter’
  • Befriend the numbers and learn to play with them.
  • Kids will learn faster, intuitive ways to perform common tasks. Think simple to think fast!
  • One-Step Mental Arithmetic techniques based on the Vedic sutras.
  • Activities, games, quizzes involving numbers and Vedic techniques.
  • 5% inspiration, 95% fun based learning.
  • For children entering 4th through 8th grade in the fall of 2010.

Gandhi Camp (Overnight camp in Olema, CA)

  • Celebrating its 24th year of service, the Gandhi Youth camp has given an opportunity to hundreds of our youth to learn Gandhian principles of truthfulness, tolerance and self-help.
  • Daily Activities include: community service projects, Sports, Cultural activities, Discussions, and Friendship-building group games.
  • This overnight camp emphasizes teamwork, leadership and unity.

Camp Costs
Camps vary in cost from $200 for Cultural Immersion Camps to $350 a week for some specialty camps. Sibling and ICC member discounts are available. Multi-week discount is for Cultural Immersion Camps only.

Camp Policies
Once camps are full any new registrants will be placed on a wait list. Enrollment is on first come first serve basis. ICC always holds the right to cancel any camp program due to insufficient enrollment. All camp payments must be made prior to the start of the camp week. Multi week discount is available only for multiple weeks enrolled in Cultural Immersion camp. NOT VALID FOR ANY OTHER CAMPS.

Camp Refund and Cancellation
In order for ICC to process a refund, we must receive an email prior to May 15th. If we receive your written email before May 15th, refunds will be made less a $50 processing fee per week of camp. Refunds will not be permitted after May 15th. No transfers will be permitted after May 15th.

Financial Assistance
ICC offers need based financial scholarships. To apply, please mark the “financial aid” box on the online registration form by May 30.
 

Lunch Program
For your convenience we offer healthy vegetarian meals for an extra charge of $35/week.

Camp Timings
All our camps are full day camps from 9:00am - 3pm. We provide extended care at ICC Milpitas after camp from 3pm - 6pm for an additional fee of $75/week.
