ICC is pleased to host free education and literacy program for its member community. The first of the session will be launched on Tuesday March 21st (with a repeat of the session in the evening on Wednesday March 22nd).
The topic of the first session will be “Investment Literacy”
The course will be presented by Mr. Bala Joshi and will be based on his study of the wisdom of legendary investor Warren Buffett and his holding company, Berkshire Hathaway. Using the Finance and Capital Markets curriculum of the Khan Academy education portal, members can expect to learn various concepts behind prudent long term investing and capital allocation.
You will learn:
1.How investment legend Warren Buffett built one of the largest conglomerates in the world and what we can learn from his life values and principles?
2.What are the four pillars and tenets that Buffett uses to decides if a business is a good long term business?
3.How does Buffett decide what is the fair value to pay for the business?
4.How does Berkshire engage in the long term derivatives markets and what are derivatives?
5.How does Berkshire prudently use leverage using insurance premium float and derivative premium float? What is leverage?

About Bala Joshi
Mr. Bala Joshi was a Director at Intel Corporation and was Vice President at Fujitsu Corporation and a Manager at Sun Microsystems prior to that. He led development of advanced Microprocessor (Computer brains) developments for over 28 years. Mr. Joshi Served on the Board of the India Community Center for ten years and is a Past President of the Board.
Mr. Joshi holds an executive MBA from Stanford University and MSEE (Hons) from University of Massachusetts. During the last three years, Mr. Joshi has been teaching MATH and Science to grade 6 – grade 12 students in the bay area.
